The Succulent Nursery

At the Kishorit succulent nursery, members grow and propagate succulent plants in a light-filled greenhouse adjacent to the organic vegetable garden. Succulents have become enormously popular as house and garden plants in Israel, and the nursery produces them both for planting around Kishorit and for sale to the public. Members are involved in the full cycle of the work, from propagating the plants to caring for them as they grow.

Working with plants is good for the members who tend them. Horticultural therapy, which uses plants and gardening as a way to support wellbeing, helps with memory, concentration and language, encourages people to start and stay with a task, and builds coordination, balance and strength. It is patient, hands-on work that rewards care and attention over time.

The nursery gives members a real workplace and a real trade, along with the pride and satisfaction that come from nurturing something living and watching it grow. The beautiful and diverse range of succulents they grow can be bought at the Kishorit Shop. Like the other workplaces at Kishorit, the nursery offers not only employment but a genuine sense of belonging.
